93 seville stereo wiring confusion

I just purchased my first-ever Cadillac, a 93 Seville (not an STS or SLS) from my brother for $2000. It's a beautiful car and has been very well taken care of, and runs like new! I fell in love with this car after only two quick drives in it (I was originally selling it for him). Anyway, the aftermarket Kenwood (ironic it's a Kenwood... note my username) stereo was hooked up bad and only 2 speakers worked and the antenna didn't go up. So I decided to remove the deck and OMG!!!, what a mess! In my 35+ years of installing car stereos (not as a pro at any shops though), I've never seen a deck installed as poorly as this one! Not one connector! It was all twisted wires and electrical tape! Heck, I did a better job when I was a teenager! Needless to say, I decided to check the stereo wiring diagram shown on the12volt's excellent source, plus one other site, and they both show the same diagram: Battery Constant 12v: Orange Accessory Switched 12v: Yellow Ground: Black Illumination: Gray Dimmer: Gray/Black Antenna Trigger: Pink Left Front Speaker Positive (+): Tan Left Front Speaker Negative (-): Gray Right Front Speaker Positive (+): Light Green Right Front Speaker Negative (-): Dark Green Left Rear Speaker Positive (+): Brown Left Rear Speaker Negative (-): Yellow Right Rear Speaker Positive (+): Dark Blue Right Rear Speaker Negative (-): Light Blue The problem is: this is NOT correct! Well, mostly. The Power, Ground, and Memory are correct, as are the Right Front and Right Rear speakers (The RR was replaced with a new wire, but the original wires at the speaker are blue and blue/white). But there is no pink wire, no tan wire, no brown wire, and there are 3 gray wires and 3 yellow wires as well as 2 harnesses that each have a red and black wire. (BTW, this card did NOT come with a Bose system.) I need to figure out the precise wiring for the stereo. I just need mainly the speaker connections and power antenna wire. I have the power, ground, and memory wires figured out. They had the Kenwood's blue/white amp turn-on lead hooked to something but apparently not the right wire, and they blue antenna wire (still labeled) not even hooked up! Thanks so much! This baby has a nice deck with remote and I want it to work until I upgrade to an even nicer deck. But I get no sound at all to the left channels and no power antenna. I appreciate any advice or help you can offer. The pic below shows only part of the MESS that I found! The gob of wires hanging out toward the steering column was all cut from a harness, then totally taped up with electrical tape and not one of those wires was connected. I also found 2 looms that both have a red and black wire, but can't figure those out either. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! This is a nightmare I don't want to relive ever again! I could get a factory harness from a wrecking yard but it probably won't help to identify all these cut wires. Thank God for ONE thing: I found correct power, ground, and memory wires and RF and RR speaker leads, so I'm getting closer. NOTICE the ONLY connector used? It's for amp turn-on, but not connected properly.

look in the trunk, right side in the area of the power antenna....is there still the amp/tuner module from the factory radio present?  the wiring there should have all the connections you need.  you'd also need to run an extension cable up for the antenna if one hasn't been previously installed.

Yes, there is a big silver box that says Delco on it, connected between the antenna and the body panel. As for the antenna, there is a regular antenna wire coming out at the deck area with a small (12g or 14g) black wired running along the antenna wire. Is that the antenna up/down wire I need? Thanks so much for your help! You won't believe how frustrating this is! Oh, what should I do with all those extra wires not connected to anything? Just tape them off like they were? Thanks again!

it might be the antenna control wire, check in the trunk to see if it connects to the antenna relay.  the relay should have six wires on it.. white, green and grey which lead into the antenna itself and orange, black and yellow? which connect to the car itself.  the yellow? would be the control lead for the antenna... connects to the head unit.

 you didn't say which kenwood unit you had, some don't use the antenna remote out although it is present in the harness.  as for the rest of the wires, assuming you identified and used the ones at the rear, remove any connections and insulate the terminations.

metra does have a harness available which connects to the factory wiring in the trunk and extends forward to the radio opening.  that may be an option if the wiring in the trunk at the tuner amp module is unmolested.

Thanks once again! You seem to know your Sevilles! The deck is nothing fancy right now, but will be soon. Right now it's a KDC-MP208. I looked it up and even though it has an ipod jack in front and a remote, it's still a very cheap deck: $75 brand new. It does have a separate blue/white amp turn-on and blue antenna wire. But I'll hold off for now. I like the idea of buying a harness that goes from the trunk to the deck area. Seems a little easier than figuring out these factory wires. I'll check their site today for an application and part number. So you're saying that a bunch of those wires in my dash are actually running all the way back to the box next to the antenna? Oh, I did apply voltage to the wire running along the antenna wire but it didn't raise or lower the antenna. I'm wondering how much of the factory system they fried by hooking it up wrong. So far not the power source/fuse, switched 12v wiring, or ground. But I'm wondering if the box in the trunk is fried. If so, I'll pick up another one. I can't get any sound out of the left speakers, even running a signal from my portable stereo directly to any wires but I was able to get sound out of both front and rears on the right side. don't worry about the box in the back, it'll be bypassed completely with an aftermarket headunit.  the factory headunit was more of a controller...well cd player or tape deck also. since it's easy to take the trim panel in the back deck that covers the rear speakers, make sure that a speaker is there (left side), and connected also. 

metra part number 70-1856 since you didn't mention a bose system. the color codes on the aftermarket harness will even match up to the aftermarket radio....isn't that nice.

I can't thank you enough, Ween! Do you own a Seville? Or you just a good, experienced installer? Either way, I highly appreciate all the helpful info you're giving me. I'll do my best to answer all your questions and be as specific as possible. I don't believe this car had the Bose system. And yes, there is a left speaker back there and it has wires going to it. I think your idea of just hooking up a head unit with all 4 new speaker wires is going to be my best bet, but I do want my antenna to work. I'll most likely get a 4-channel amp in the trunk (already shopping for one) but trying to figure out any of the factory wiring that doesn't match what I see per the diagram, it's best (as you say) to just wire a new head unit directly as if I'm installing it into a car without all that complicated Cadillac junk! I'll keep you updated as to how things go and post pics like I did of my Stratus system. By the way, I just noticed the lighter fuse is blown. Any idea where that fuse is? Under the dash? don't own a caddy, worked on too many of them though. a 1.5v battery with a few wires attached will make a simple tester to check a speaker for polarity, and some sound. just tap the leads across the speaker terminals and listen. a multimeter can also be used..set on ohms to see if voice coil is open. believe there is a fuse box, left side of trunk...cover maybe 1.5" x 4", labeled too...20A for cig ltr? does your trunk have the pulldown feature? closes itself once shut most of the way?...fuse for pulldown is the same as the power antenna. if the pulldown isn't working your antenna might not either. pulling info from Autozone website, in case you are wondering.

Yeah, I've used the battery test for many years. This time I was out of batteries to test with. LOL! And no, the trunk pull-down is NOT working! So you think it could be the fuse or breaker? I'll have to check. I found an owner's manual online (all 447 pages!!!). Too bad it has no wiring diagrams. But it does show fuses and breakers and their locations. I'll check the fuse for the trunk. Heck, the antenna might work after all with just a fuse replacement. There IS good news though! (No, I already have Geico so that's not it): It only cost me $27 for my title change today on this car! I almost fainted. That's the least I ever paid for a title change in probably 25 years! My brother said he gave it to me as a gift, and he just renewed the license tabs in September.
