I replaced the oem nissan speakers (2.4 ohm) with 4 ohm speakers as a matter of convenience & costs. Will the new speakers damage the audio system. I noticed that the bass sounds are almost non-existant .

No the new speakers should not cause any harm to the audio system.  Just make sure you have the polarity correct as that is sometimes the cause of little or no bass being heard.  The overall volume of the 4 ohm speakers should be less than that of all the other speakers in the system because the 4-ohm speakers offer up more resistance to the amplifier, and thus draw less power from the amp.  This means they will not be as loud as the other speakers.

Just out of curiosity, did you have the bose audio system in this vehicle?  Or was it just a standard/premium stock system?  Cuz I thought only bose systems had those speakers with really low resistances--the standard systems use 4 ohm speakers I think.

The speakers were stock OEM in a 93 Nissan Pathfinder. I think the years of spraying Armor All on the grills had dissolved the speaker diaphrams which caused them to rattle.
