92 4runner speaker problems

hello folks. I am new here so I hope this is a OK post. I recently purchased a used 4runner and had to install a stereo. (Previous owner had a TV in the stereo compartment.....) I used a wiring diagram from this site and the factory provided diagram For the stereo. My issue is this. I get sound from only the front left speaker (from drivers perspective). My guess was maybe a bad ground? I have installed a few stereos in my day so I hope I did it right,but who's to say. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was just hoping for any thoughts other than the ground. Maybe I should just run speaker wire to some stand alone speakers? Respectfully, Flarggin

Check to see if the previous owner left speakers in the truck and that they work. Use a meter to check the speaker wires aren't grounded and you have continuity through the speaker. Most speakers measure at 4 ohms. Buying a used vehicle, you never know how the previous system was wired. Did the speakers work with the radio before you started.sparky

That's the thing there was no stereo/radio or TV in the housing when I bought it.... Just a hole and wiring harness. Stock speakers are in place. I guess I will check the speaker wires right now and thanks for the reply. I will conquer this issue eventually. Need my tunes!

my first thought was to check to make sure the speakers were even installed in the doors. ive seen it plenty of times where someone would just screw the speakers in the doors and not hook them up because they were in a rush to trade in a vehicle. the easiest way to check would be to use a multi meter on the speaker wires to see if you get an ohm reading from each set of speaker wires. you should get a reading of around 2 ohms to 6 ohms if the speaker is good, if the speaker is blown or not hooked up then the meter will read "open".
