another sub box Q

hey..talking about sub boxes here, i recently had a HUGE box in my trunk, and it was ported at first, but my subs were ment for sealed box and for each box it was to be a 1cu3 box. so i sealed the ports with two peices of wood. sounded awesome spl hit hard, each chambers were 1.95cu3 (2 chambers). pretty big if you ask me. the box was too big and weighed down my back end. well i trashed my old box and now i'm in the making of a new one. my specs are 2.00cu3 for both subs in a sealed box, but with a brace in the middle, before it was two seperate chambers..which made them 1.95cu3 for one sub each. what i'm worried about is that the spl won't hit as hard or it would sound goofy if i do put the box into the car...:( please help...sorry for the long topic! xTimx

I've seen it before. It's called a Window Brace. Keep in mind that both subs will be using the same airspace, so the sound waves will sound different. It shouldn't be too hard to try it with the window brace, and then with a solid brace to hear the difference. When you build an enclosure you want to use screws and a good sealant (the sealant makes it difficult to "reopen" the frame of the enclosure). So while you're testing the difference, use a rubber mat or rubber strip instead to seal the top piece of the enclosure. You should still get a good temporary seal with the top screwed in place and will be able to reopen the enclosure and easily exchange the center brace. When you decide on which you like better, take off the rubber strip and use a good sealant for the final product. All that's left to do is the final carpeting and you're good to go!Squirrel

ok guys got my sub box installed....it's waay lighter than the other one.but the amazing part is that it pounds just as much as the old one i had..now all i have to do is carpet my trunk some how and make an amp rack..
