I replaced the factory cd player which was bad...I installed another cd player, which I had to bypass the factory amp...For some reason the radio will only play with the interior lights on (dash lights, the light switch must be on or on parking lights)....does anyone know how or why this is....Maybe I miswired something.....A good wiring diagram may help...

Also,  I have a question on the factory cd player on this car...For some reason the stereo died on me...I am getting power, the radio holds time, and you can change the stations,  and even loads the cd but no sound comes out...

Does anyone know what would cause this....Any help would be appreciated

Since replacing the factory cd player with the new one, had you ever been able to get sound?  I couldn't tell from your post if you meant that for a while you were getting sound with the new one or not.

When you have your key in the ignition and open the driver's door, do you get a door chime sound?  Or no?  If not, that means your car has the GM Class II data wiring system.  This system is really a pain in the butt to work with.  but first let me ask you, what kind of head unit did you end up replacing the original one with?  you just "another cd player" so I wasn't sure if you meant an aftermarket one or if you got the same model factory cd player; or maybe you took the cd player from an older GM car.

Most likely your new radio won't turn on is because it's not getting the +12 volt switched connection because the system that came with the car does not need this wire, and so therefore it is not present.  You have to run a wire all the way to the ignition harness.

Where did you get your accessory (switched) power connection? It isn't available in the factory radio harness---you need to get it somewhere else like the steering column or fuse box.
Overall, you might be better off to just get the factory radio repaired rather than downgrade to an aftermarket radio.

You will need to find an accessory (switched) power connection like Chris Luongo said. The car dose not have a switched 12 volt once you disconnect the factory radio, To find a new one  I would suggest you tap into the pink wire located in the ignition harness. This will allow your new aftermarket unit to function correctly.
