Hello,

My left front speaker in my 2001 cherokee limited stopped working.  I thought that I blew the speaker, and wanted to upgrade them anyway, so I purchased 5/14 kicker 525s.  Whwn I connected the speaker to the wires for the front left speaker, the new one didn't work either :(  I am thinking either short or bad channel on the head unit.

Has this happened to anyone else?   Is this a common problem with this car?

Does anyone have instructions on how I can pull out the radio?  Dash removal etc...  I would appreciate any and all replies.

Thank you in advance,

Jack

Did the vehicle come with the Infinity  premium sound system?  If so, then there may be a problem with the infinity amplifier.  Or of course regardless of whether or not you have the infinity system, the head unit could always be the culprit as well.  If you can get to the radio's harness you could hook up a test speaker directly to the wires for the front left speaker, and you could tell right there whether or not your head unit is messed up at all.

Actually the radio in this vehicle is pretty easy to remove.  All you have to do is work your way around the trim bezel surrounding the radio/climate controls, and pry up and pull it towards you.  It's held in by a bunch of spring clips but it's usually not that hard to pull it off.  There shouldn't be any screws holding in the bezel.

However, there will be some screws holding the radio in so make sure you remove those once you get the trim bezel out of the way.  I'm pretty sure there's just one in the top right and another at the bottom left, and they are 3/8" hex head screws.  Or it may be the style that has two regular phillips screws on the left side of the unit and two regular phillips screws on the right side of the unit.

I don't haveth einfinity system (no markings anywhere anyway)

Thanks for the input.  I will try to get behind the head unit tomorrow and see what is going on. I will let you know how it works out.

Thanks again for the guidance

Jack
