Headunit Problem

hello all, i recently installed a Pioneer DEH-1400 headunit in a 89 Oldsmobile Regency 98. everything works fine, except that it will not retain preset radio stations nor the clock setting every time the ignition is shut off. any help is appreciated. thanks again.

it seems that you have reversed the switch power and constant power wires. Swap the two and you should have no problems

yes it sounds like you have the two backwards reverse the yellow wire with the red wire on your radio

on GMC products of that time, you can easily mistake the light dimmer wire for an accessory wire...cause it will show 12 when key is turned on, so make sure turning the lights on and off has no effect on the deck such as making it tunr off when light s go on. If that is not the case, switch the power and accessory wire as the other guys said. you might also have to run a constant 12 volt wire from your fuse box/battery as the stock may not have needed a constant power sorce.

the only way the headunit would power up is that the yellow and red wires from the headunit and the cars harness were all spliced together. never had this happen before. would there be a problem due to his power antenna or his battery terminals being a little worn?
