my harness got ripped out when my stereo was stolen over the weekend, i'm trying to wire in a sony cdx-mp70.  but the wiring from the car doesn't match up to the color codes of the metra guide from one of those metrawire kits.  anyone got any ideas?

the colors of the wiring in the car are
grey, grey/black, blue / YELLOW, BROWN / yellow, black, WHITE/ black, WHITE/ blue, RED / yellow, RED / green, blue/green, yellow/red, RED / black, BROWN / black.
i'm guessing that's the wiring colors before the factory harness

Here's another diagram of the wiring for that car.  You may either want to try getting another factory harness from a wrecked car or an OEM replacement harness from metra or scosche or even your local honda dealership.  That will make things easier in the long run.

well i bought a turbowire harness from metra, but that was the problem i was having also, b/c the color codes from the metra are standard colors, but in the civic, the color schematics are different.  if i end up using the metra harness i'd have to get another harness from like scosche to go out from the factory harness to hook up with the sony hu.  just more work i guess...

ok heres what you do...i am an installer at electronic express and i have hardwired many cars before...its not that complicated....just time consuming!  first find your ground...should be black or brown.   now use a test light to find the constant and accessory wires.  the constant will always light up the test light whereas the accessory wire will only light up when the ignition is on.  you could find the speaker wires by tracing them back from the speaker itself, but sometimes the wires change colors by the time they get to the radio.   get a digital multimeter. set it to ohms.  probe the negative lead in a wire(not ground, constant, or accessory) and keep probing all the other wires until u see an ohm load which will probably be between 4-8.  when u see that..u have found a pair of speaker wires.  touch the wires to a 12volt battery drill...that will pop the speaker.  make sure u know which part of the drill battery is positive and negative.  watch the speaker when u pop it.  if it sucks in...u have the wires reversed....if the speaker pops out...u got it right.  any questions hit me with an email at italnpimp59@hotmail.com

well i looked at the diagrams you guys listed, and hooked it up acording to the sony maunal of what's what and the honda wiring guide of what's what. and plugged it all in, thought i had it right, hooked it up to the hu, and low and behold, i get nada.  stereo doesn't power up, nothing.  could it be a fuse or something?  i'm so lost haha...

probably the fuse on your constant wire is blown.....use a test light to test your constant and accessory wires.  also check to make sure you have a good ground connection.

the fuse on teh constant wire? the inline fuse right? well i have to crimp a new one i think, because the wiring was ripped out of one end of the fuse.  is it possible to run it without the inline fuse or would you not recommend it under any circumstances?

still having problems, i connected the constant to yellow and the accessory to red, i installed an inline fuse to the constant, with a 15amp fuse, and i get nothing.  but when i reverse the connections, constant to red and accessory to yellow, the eject button works, but that's all i've gotten..what else could be the problem?

i got the digital multimeter and the test light. .  when i turn the ignition on, i get a 12.55 on the accessory and a 4.5 on the constant without the inline fuse.  when i turn it off, the accessory is at 0 but the constant starts to fade down to zero. so what do i do now?
