Alright... i just made a custom box for my 99 accord... it goes in place of the spare tire... my question is, could i mount the subwoofer facing up, or down... what are the benefits/disadvantages to doing this? any input would be helpful... thanx guys

A speaker makes sound on both sides of the cone, generally speaking it will not matter which way you put it in, if you put it upside down, you must reverse the polarity of the speaker, done by switching the speakers leads pos - neg and neg - pos. One effect that it will have is on the amount of air in the box, If you lesten to it each way the difference in either tonal quality or spl may be the same, slightly better or worse or drastically better or worse than the oposite way. With a speaker mounted conventionally, the speaker occuppies space in the box, with it inverted it does not. If you are going to carry something in your trunk, space is now an issue, an inverted sub occuppies trunk space instead of box space, and if you carry things in the trunk you leave yourself wide open for potential damage to the speaker. Most people invert a speaker for very specific reasons like need of airspace, to highlight the sub, lack of mounting depth or for whatever reason. If you have built a sealed box, most speakers will behave rather nicely in it. Let us know how you make out.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
