Hey everyone!!

I am kind of shaky about running the remote for my Punch 400 in a '03 Impala.  The receiver is a Panasonic 803U.  Where should I run the remote to and what about the power?  Know of anywhere to get a diagram so that I don't spend all night surfing through the firewall?

Thank you very much!

I can help you out, can you give me a brief description of what equipment you are adding (speakers amps etc.)?

Hey!  Thank you very much.  I am installing a Punch 400 Amp and two Polk 12's.  I just wanted to make sure that the remote lead on the GM compatible wiring harness is alright to tap into because someone mentioned to me that the wiring harness on a 2003 Impala has some kind of "special precautions".

Thanks again

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, Your car is equipped with a class 2 data bus system http://www.velocitymotorsport.com/install_notes/OBDII.htm allot of people make more of a deal out of it then it really is. The best and simplest way to do this would be to purchase a relocation harness http://www.autosoundgear.com/tek9.asp?pg=products&specific=jopoenq8 Dash kit http://autosoundgear.com/tek9.asp?pg=products&specific=jokopqf0 and an antenna adapter http://autosoundgear.com/tek9.asp?pg=products&specific=jonrmqd8 . Now the relocation harness will allow you to retain all of the radios data bus features as well as provide you with all the speaker and power connections you will need for your aftermarket radio. Now your car dose not have a switched + 12volt for your radio, so you will need to find an external source. I normally tap into the pink wire located in the ignition harness. That will then be connected to the relocation harness supplying everything with a + switched 12volt. When you do the install I would suggest that you disconnect the battery until you’re all done. 1st off you will need to remove the front facade of the dash, to do so open both the driver and passenger side doors. On either side of the dash you should see the covers to the fuse panels, remove them as well as the screw that secures the dash. You will then want to remove the 2 screws located on the top side of the gauges under the dash (just above the speedometer). If you feel around up there you should be able to locate them you will need a stubby Philips’s screw driver to get them out. Then I would suggest that you start at the driver side fuse panel and slowly start to remove the dash panel for the radio and ac vents. It should now only be held in by clips on the back side of the panel. Once you remove the panel take out the factory radio. Find the pink wire in the ignition harness and tap it. Then connect your aftermarket harness to the factory harness and attach your tapped + 12volt switched form the ignition to the specified wire in the aftermarket harness (the harness will come with instructions). You can now install the dash kit. Then match up the wire colors of the aftermarket head unit to the aftermarket harness they should use the same colors, and then install the antenna using the adapter. Now you will want to route the relocation harness to the trunk and then connect the factory radio to it, and mount it somewhere in the trunk. To do so just pull up on the panels along the floor boards and put the cable underneath. I would suggest you do it along the driver’s side since we will route the power on the passenger side to avoid any EMI interference. Now for the power, on the front passenger side you will want to lift the carpet up you should see a large grommet on the upper floor. You will want to carefully drill a whole thru the grommet avoiding the wiring harness already located in it. Then run your power cable from the battery thru the grommet under the trim on the passanger side floor board and then to the trunk. Now to get it into the trunk the easiest way to do so is to remove the rear seat. To do so just pull up on the front side nice and hard and it should pop out it’s just held in by 2 clips. You will then want to connect a remote wire to turn your amp on and off. You will need to connect it to the Blue/ White wire on the aftermarket head unit. Run the wire on the same side as the power. Now for the signal to the Punch 400 you have 2 options. If your head unit has a preout for the sub then you can connect a set of rca's to it and run it along the driver side to the trunk. If you don’t have a preout you will need to use a High to low converter and tap it into the signal from you rear speakers. Once you have done so you will need to run a set of rca's from the high to low converter to the amp. For your ground just find a good metal surface in the trunk near the amp. Sand it down and screw the cable to the surface make sure you know what is on the other side you don’t want to drill into the gas tank etc.) Now you should be able to connect the amp Connect the power and ground to the amp, then connect your remote wire and then finally your rca's. Reconnect the battery and connect your subs and fire it up. I hope the install goes well and if you have anymore ? Don’t hesitate to ask.
