I've just installed a new Sony MCDX-M3DI into my 98 Grand Cherokee with the Infinity Gold System in it. After wiring it in I have found out that the stereo plays over the speakers, however, when I put in a cd it plays on the cd player but no sound comes out of the speakers. It's just silent. Is it in the connections, the CD player or the factory amplifier maybe? Thanks.

you need to connect the remote turn on wire from your deck, to the amp turn on wire in your truck.   Look for any wires in the factory harness you didn't use, , they may be blue, and connect the remote wire to the wire and see which one turns the amp on.

Alpine guy is on the right path, all that it sounds like is the wrong wire hooked up to the stock amp. Some decks have 2 almost identical blue wires, one gives +12v with the radio only (power antenna lead), the other gives +12v with any audio source playing (remote on lead). One wire is usually solid blue, the other is blue with a small white tracer.

I understand what you guys are saying, however, if that was the case wouldn't the radio not work either? If i turn the tuner on radio sound comes over the speakers, but when i turn it to cd it plays on the screen but no sound over the speakers. Am I making sense?

The power from you deck going to power up the antenna actually circulates back to the amp and turns it on.  But when you play a cd, there is no power going to the antenna, so you need power to go out to your amp.

I don't know what wire colour it will be in your truck.  But there has been many many discussions about jeep grand cherokee's , and why the speakers don't play when playing cd's.

All the same reason.   I just wish harness manufacturers would put the dang wire in the harness.

Do a search and you will find your answer.

Ryan, have a closer look at my post, notice that it says one wire gives +12volt when the radio is on only - the power antenna lead. The other wire gives +12volts when any audio source is used - the remote on lead. You need to verify what wire is hooked up to the amp.
