I'm installing a new head unit.....  My factory was ripped from the dash, and I bought a new Sony one to replace it.  When It was stolen, the original factory plug was cracked, and rendered useless.... Since I couldn't find the correct factory plug, I hard wired the sony's plug into the factory harness, (yeah 22 gauge to 18 gauge....pain in the butt).  Now I'd like to add a new (used) stereo.  My question is, can I just cut further up the harness, into the 18 gauge wire, or do I have to cut that all back, and re-solder back into the original factory harness?  I don't want to lose sound quality of performance in this application....Will soldering do this?

You'll be fine to do it either location.

As mentioned either way should work just fine. Only thing is now instead of say 10 solder connections, you now have 20. Not a big deal as long as you are confident in your connections. Should something go wrong just a little more work to find the bad connection. Sound quality wise you won't be able to notice a difference either way assuming the solder joints are good.. Good luck,
Mike

well, sound quality as of right now isn't that big of a deal, since i'm running external amps to all of my speakers.....i just wanted to make sure i wouldn't be losing power to my head unit, since there will be twice the solder....
I guess I'll solder into the 18 guage section, since it will be FAR easier to solder to, location wise, and size wise....
Thanks
