frequency response issues with kicker sub

ok, i have a kicker L5 15 inch sub(the square one) in a 1.5 cubic feet sealed box at the moment.  i am powering it with a kenwood 8101d mono block amp putting out 400 watts rms at 2 ohms.  i have the crossover set to play everything below about 70 hz.  my problem is this...my bass is very choppy in songs that have bass lines that vary alot in one sound. for example, a bass line that goes from 40 hz steadily up to 150 hz then drps to 50 hz again, sounds like sh*t with my setup becuz i hear no sound from my sub at the areas above 100 hz, no matter how high i tunr my crossover.  this is becuz kicker solobarics have a frequency response that is only up to 100 hz.  so a bass line that is supposed to be one long boooom,...is played as boo-booooommm in my setup.. its pissin me off.  i have a box on the way from a store that has a 3 cubic ft chamber with a slot port in it.  do you think this will help my problem at all? im hoping it will slow down the waves a lil bit and maybe blend in the choppiness. any suggestions if this idea wont work? any help would be appreciated.  thnx!

No, nothing will help with the situation you describe short of adding a woofer to create the sound spectrum you are currently missing.  Your 15" L5 works best between about 70hz and 20Hz.  What speakers do you have now that are covering the range between 70Hz and, say, 200Hz?  This is what you need, and if your mains can't hack in this range (which most cannot) you may need to add a second "sub" like a 10" crossed over in this band.Support the12volt.com

thanx guyz...i think ur right,..and that is what i thought i would need to do.  i was just hoping maybe someone knew of a cheaper way out.  so my next question is this, should i sell what i have now, and buy a whole new setup, or should i add on to what i have now??  if i get a new setup, i was thinking  1 or 2 audiobahn 15's, like the natural sound series. they are relatively in expensive and they have a much larger frequency range, about 20-500 hz in some models and 20-1000 in others.  if i keep what i have and add on,...im not sure whut i'd do becuz i dont have alot of money to work with.  if i sold whut i have now i could afford sumthin else.  what do you guyz think? thnx.

Since I really dislike the Solobaric series in general, I say sell what you have and replace it with real woofers.  Now I cannot recomend Audiobahn either, although many people have good luck with them.  But if what you want is good SPL levels and good SQ to go with it at a decent price point, look at subs from Lightning Audio, Infinity, Hifonics, MTX, MA Audio, Dayton...Support the12volt.com
