I just bought a ford premium stereo/cassette with sony cd slave unit that installs below.  I am upgrading a 1993 Taurus that had the basic stereo/cassette.

Question 1.

what are the wiring diagrams for the slave cd? There are 2 plugs.  1   8-pin  and 1    6-pin.  Where does the 8 pin connect to and where does the 6 pin connect to?

Question 2.

Is an amp required to power the system?

Thanks in advance,  Brian

I don't know the answer to question 1 since I am usually removing them and not hooking them up.  :)  For question 2 the answer is yes, Ford premium sound systems use an external amp.

this isnt necessarily true, we've found out on other posts that there are only amps for certain years, I know I have a 99 EB expy and it does not have an external amp, so I think it was only used up until 99

Really?  OK, thanks for that correction.  So I guess the real answer is "it depends."  :)

I did similar setup for my frined Grand Marquis. We installed HU , rewire all speakers , added 4ch amp and its sounds pretty good, better than stock Premium sound. This site has most of Ford's radios with diagrams , very helpful , if still consern let know , we will work this out.
