difference between 1, 2, and 3 channel amps?

I wanted to know the difference between 2 channel, 3 channel, and mono amps.

3 channel amps are usually a 2 channel amp. (i don't think ive personally ever seen an amp with 3 channels. if there are amps of this type i would assume the third channel was a sub out.) 

2 channel amps are usually class a/b and the newer type digital. produces the entire audible spectrum used for highs and mids most cases also for lows when desired.

mono blocks are most always class d. used for subwoofers and low end in car audio. produces only parts of the audible spectrum

sorry i can't seem to find a good site with definations of the classes of amps. maybe sum1 smart will know 1.

kfr01 great site and all but a lil confusing, would help if you maybe referenced to the actual part that would help with his question.
