Just recently installed after-market unit in a 1996 Caprice. Upon completion of the install, i lose power to the mirrors, door locks, and interior lights. Everything is wired properly, no fuses are blown, and it works perfectly. Used a harness that i purchased @ a local Best Buy. Radio however stays on even after vehicle is shut off and keys removed. Im thinking that the harness is labeled incorrectly and the iLL. and 12v constant were switched so i tried that to see if that would clear my problems, but that didnt help at all either. Im at a stand still.. any suggestions? BTW, car is a 1996 Caprice ex-squad car.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you try putting the original radio back to see if everything will work? If everything is working then the problem is related to the removal of the radio. I have done a few of these x cop cars before and as far as I know the radio harness is independent. If the radio stays on after you have remove the key most likely you have connected the red remote wire on your radio to a constant power wire source on your car. To remedy the problem, simply used a digital meter and locate the wire that switch on and off with the key in the ignition.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Caprice Radio Install Issues -- posted image.

did you try opening the drivers door while the radio was staying on? these vehicles cotain a RAP circuit that will keep the radio powered up for 20 minutes or until the drivers door is opened....

your other sounds like a blown fuse... did you check all the fuses in BOTH fuse boxes?

In response to both posts, i did try putting the factory AM/FM back in and the same issue is still present. Also, this car doesn't contain a RAP circuit. I checked both fuse locations, the panel on the inside of the drivers door as well as the under-hood fuse box and nothing is blown and no breakers are thrown. All of my grounds seem to be intact as well. I was thinking if there was an in-line fuse somewhere under the dash but that wouldn't make much sense if everything was routed through the fuse panel in the first place..
