Hello everyone. I am new to the 12 volt install bay, but I am not new to car audio and the like. Today I got a new clarion head unit so I decided to take out my old sony xplod head unit and put that one in. I took it out, then cut the wires and matched them up with the ones on the new head unit and then when i go to power it on, it does not. The only thing that happens is as soon as I plug in the wires on the HU harness, my power antenna goes up and it starts signaling my amplifier for my subs to start drawing power. So I'm like WTF so I took that one out and pu my old one in and it doesn't work either. The same thing happens. What is going on?

This has all the indications of a bad ground. Run a new ground wire from the new cd player to a new ground location.

did you hook up the old sony wiring to the new clarion exactly wire for wire? if so , they probly have a different wiring sequence and you might want to double check it.

I hooked the old sony one up to the same wires that it was connected to before I took it out and put in the clarion. I have a wiring schematic for the clarion and from what I read so far it is the same. Thanks for the input...anyone else?

The antenna is plugged in...and I know in my nissan tht is supposed to complete the circuit and let it power up but no luck. As for using the switching 12 volt as power, i'm not sure. I think I plugged that into the wire that signals the head unit to start getting power  when the key is turned, although I might be mistaken. I f I can't figure it out tomorrow I know I have like 50 bucks lying around somewhere and I 'll just take it to circuit city and be an idiot for a  day

Just save your money and do what forbidden suggested.  Run a new ground wire. He dosn't have over 2200 posts for nothing.   I have seen that problem to.  It is the fact that you need a better ground wire.  Just do it.
