i just bought a pair of 6x9 infinity kappa's. 110 watt rms, 35 hz, and they are installed in those 6x9's enclosures that you buy from best buy. my question is how do i go about modifying them for bass reflex. what diameter should the holes be cut?

If you have the T/S parameters for those woofers, which I doubt Infinity publishes, you could use any good speaker building software to figure it out.  But in general those speakers are not designed for bass reflex OR acoustic suspension (in your enclosures) mounting, they are designed for free-air mounting in a rear deck.

Well, I'm assuming that you bought those Prefabbed grey carpeted boxes to put those in.
Most 6x9s are actually made for infiniti baffle systems. Like those in most cars, you know, the ones that go in the rear deck?
I don't really think you'll gain anything from putting them in a ported enclosure.
What are you trying to improve?

Hmmm... Is there a space underneath your front seats? If so, you might be able to build a custom box for a Low profile earthquake sub.

you could fit some 8" mid basses or even tens that are the same size as those boxes. you would get much better results that way. im listening to my ghetto rigged system im my apartment that consist of a 8" polk sub and some bookshelfs and have a new respect for 8" woofers below 80hz

I bought a pair of used infinity 6x9 reference's in boxes.  It killed the low end bass and boosted the mid's.  I took them out of the boxes last night and it sounds 100% better.

I'd definitely recommend ditching the boxes!  At least try it without a box!  You'll like it, trust me.  I don't have a sub, just 6-1/2" components in front and the 6x9's in back, stock CD player even.

If you want to keep them in a box, be sure they are sealed up tight and have some fiber fill or foam on all sides.

I thought about cutting a hole, but I don't even want to look at those boxes anymore. ; )  Take 'em back to Best Buy.

Good Luck.
