my wife had "high-end" JVCcd/stereo installed for me as surprise recently. infinity brand spkrs.(7 spkrs. total) are good and remain in car ('97 intrepid es) spkrs started popping & crackling occasionally and now getting worse.checked for loose connections and found none. installer (who is obviously an idiot) says the car has a seperate factory amp for the speakers and must be shorting out. he says to find amp (in trunk area) and disconnect leads from amp to spkrs. by the way noise occurs in rear spkrs(for example) even when fader is switched all to front or vice/versa. question #1-is this correct info from installer dude? -is this something that he should have known/and done at time of installation? wiil this correct noise? i think the noise is starting to occur in front spkr in rt. door panel also. how will i know for sure that all spkrs. are "de-amplified"? especially since there are small factory tweeters way up in front of dash panel by base of windshield? installer dude says new unit is powerful enough and don't need factory spkr amp anyway. but wants to charge me if he works on it. so you can guess what i told him. please help if you can...thanx

Hmm.... sounds that he may be right, On the subject of bypassing your amplifier, this may be of some help. Standard install, you usually use the factory amp, if its still good, but your HU is enough power for your speakers, if you find it isn't, you always have the option of adding an aftermarket amp.

Easy killer.  Your installer sounds like he knows what he's talking about, and an amp bypass is never free- period.

If you want you can run new wire to each speaker, or you can connect on to the factory amp's output wires.

Locate your amplifier, and using a multimeter, locate your constant, ground, and turn on leads.  Now that you've found these, you can eliminate them as speaker leads.  Test the remaining wires in pairs until you get continuity.  Now take a battery, and "pop" the speakers to find which is which.  If the speaker popped "out", then the wire you touched to the positive battery terminal is positive, if not, then you've got it backwards.

Now that you've located your speaker leads, run some new wire from your deck to these leads.

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

Sorry, you can NOT post a reply.
