Sorry for the long read in advance, I like to be thorough.
I have a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado standard cab, just finished the initial install last week and now I need to look into some front speakers. The system is set up for SQ, however I do like the ability to be able to play it louder then average when I desire. Currently installed are:
Alpine CDA-9827 Head Unit
Two
10" Diamond Audio TM310D4 Subwoofers (CM3 with a more shallow mounting depth for trucks) They are 4 ohm duel voice coil and handle I believe 300w RMS. (That’s the newer model specs but I believe they are the same as the CM3 models and they don’t have the CM specs on their site any more) They are mounted in two truck style ¾” MDF boxes, which I am unsure of the size.
One
Lanzar Vibe250 2 Channel 900w Amplifier, 250w RMS at 4 ohm, 450w RMS at 2 ohm, it is 2 ohm stable. This amplifier is running the Diamonds.
One Aura Force 400Q 4 Channel 400w Amplifier (If anyone has the specs to this I would greatly appreciate a copy, I have been unable to locate any information on this amplifier online, I bought it new in 1998 and the dealer has since gone out of business.) This amplifier is running the stock 6.5” that are in the doors and 4x6” that are in the rear pillars. I believe it gets at least 50w RMS per channel, possibly a bit more.
I have the woofers wired for a 4-ohm load, aside from the wires being bridged at the amplifier instead of the subwoofers; they look the same as this:
4 ohm DVC Wiring
The wiring for the power, ground, speakers, and all the preamp cables are Stinger, so I am fairly sure none of the problems are from cheap wire. The grounds from the amplifiers are straight to the chassis at a bolt I drilled into the floor. The power and preamps are run on seperate sides of the vehicle.
Now for the questions:
Is there any way to get the woofers down to a 2 ohm load, and would I want to, or just run them how they are with about 250 RMS per woofer. I have the gain up about ¼ of the way and am running 4 gauge wire from the battery to a JL distribution block, and 4 gauge to the Lanzar amp power and ground.
The Aura has 8 gauge power and ground, do I need to upgrade the wires to 4 gauge for new front speakers? My initial guess is most likely not.
Given the 400w amplifier I am running and would use for front speakers, what recommendations for front speakers do you have? I was considering the Diamond Audio components since I already have and am thoroughly pleased with their subwoofers, but I would have to learn how to set crossovers as I have no previous experience with them, and I would have to find a place to mount them, but I believe I can get them to fit inside the kick panels.
There is a very slight bump when I turn the vehicle off, it doesn’t bother me noise wise, but I am concerned if it will damage anything or not, anyone know if this is known to cause damage over time?
The Lanzar has a single preamp out that I have running to the fronts on the Aura amp, would it be worth my time to get another full preamp wire from the Alpine back to the smaller amp? It does have space for a third preamp cable if needed.
I still have a 60 amp AGP fuse at the battery, would it be worth the money to upgrade to a larger ANL fuse? If so what size?
I believe that is all I have to ask at the time, hopefully I have provided a decent overview of what I have installed. Thank you in advance for the advice.
