The DEH-P9300

Hello. The subject head unit is installed in my 2002 Camry, stock speakers. Recently, while trying to skip tracks on a playing CD, the unit instead decided to fast-forward for several minutes. No amount of button twidling could get it to stop. Trying to change the source didn't help. Also, I couldn't get the faceplate to drop down. The fast-forwarding finally stopped on its own. Things were okay for a couple of days after that, but the problem made a return visit. After much twidling and cussing during another bout of unintended fast-forwarding, the faceplate finally dropped down. I used the opportunity to dry Q-tip clean the mating connectors between the front of the head unit and the back of the faceplate. My thought was that unit-to-faceplate connection was bad from contamination of some sort. Then the problem returned. I bit the bullet and decided to reset the microprocessor (loosing all my lovely settings and tweaks). This time the unit went into DEMO mode (expected), but I couldn't get it out of that mode by following the user manual instructions. This went on for about 15 minutes until the display simply disappeared completely. The faceplate does drop down though when I turn the ignition off. But the now stuck CD doesn't eject out. Bottom Line: Blank display; no sound; stuck CD; faceplate controls inoperable. I keep thinking that the faceplate is just not "talking" to the head unit. Jiggling the faceplate a bit doesn't improve the pin connector contact. Any helpful ideas would be very welcome! Thanks.hc

I had a simlilar problem with an older pioneer unit. It turned out that there was a small ribbon cable that somehow got damaged. thankfully the unit was covered under an extended warranty and was fixed for free. But it would completely bug out and do crazy stuff.

the DEH-P 9300 is an older unit i don't think it's the connection from the face to the unit i would suggest buying a new headunit if yours is not under warranty if you have liked that pioneer untell this  you may want to buy a new unit  www.ikesound.com has pioneer headunit for good prices i ordered the premier deh-p770mp for $1991974 ford pinto 4 15" punch Z power punch bd 1001 pioneer DEH-6700

With no warranty coverage and the anticipation of a new, replacement unit cost being not that much more than that of the DEH-P9300 repair, I went ahead and got the Pioneer DEH-P8600MP. Audio capabilities same as the P9300, but with a color display and a thicker faceplate profile. I already miss my P9300's larger, green and blue display (complimenting and slightly mirroring the Camry's dash lighting) and svelte profile which conformed nicely with the Best dash kit installation. In short, the P8600 sticks out, but it all boils down to sound, anyway, and I expect it to put out as least as much as my old unit. We'll see -- and just as soon as I get full and proper hearing back after I get over the flu! Oh, the irony of it all. While recuperating, I'll have fun digging my stuck Underworld CD out of the P9300.
