Hi there,
Trying to wire in an Alpine CDA-9807 into my 99 Subary Legacy GT Sedan. When I got the car, it came with an old Pioneer deck which was working fine but couldn't play MP3s so I popped it out immediately. The factory connectors had been cut off completely by whoever installed the pioneer deck, and I'm trying to splice in the Alpine connector into the mess that they left.
There is a wiring diagram for a 99 Subaru Legacy in the vehicle info sections, but it doesn't seem to match the wires that are now hanging out of my dash. For example, the constant 12V+ is said to be RED / Green in the Subaru, but the old deck's harness had the yellow 12V+ connected to a yellow wire from the car, which is a larger guage than the others and I can only assume is the 12V+ wire. The black ground is consistent, but I can't find the 12V+ switched, after having tried a few different ones.
The wires for the speakers are all still attached to the Pioneer connector and everything was working before. There are also a number of wires that are just hanging around and don't seem to have ever been connected to the Pioneer deck.
Now if I attach the connector to the deck, I get no power to the unit, and have tried using several different combinations to figure out the 12V+ switched with no luck.
Is there anything I'm missing here?
Please help!

Yes, you might have miss finding the fuse to the switch wire.
Don't ASS-U-ME ANTHING. Get your self a digital mulitimeter and save the guess work for the lottery ticket. Head unit is very easy to do. Maybe I will be able to help you. First thing, find the +12V. You said Yellow, test that wire. If that's the correct one connect it to the yellow wire on your new Alpine unit. Next, the +12V switch. Put your key in and turn it to ACC.. Now test for your +12V switch wire. There hasto be one there. If not, look and replace the fuse in the fuse box. The blown fuse can be either inside the car fuse box or under the hood. Once you have the correct switch wire and working, connect that to the RED wire of the deck. Now ground the black wire of the deck to the chassis if you don't find any ground in the bunch of cut wires. The deck will come on now with that three simple wire connection. If not, the problem is the deck. Check the fuse in the deck and make sure they are all working.
Speaker are much more simplier. You can do simple elimination to find out which is your speaker wire. Get yourself a small 9V battery. Find the speaker wire that you can see in the back which correspond to the cut wire in the front. Connect that to the battery you will hear a poping noise. Post your result and questions if still need more help.

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply thepencil, got it sorted out on the weekend. The problem was that the 12v switched that was used for the previous deck had been run directly from the fuse panel and had caused other things like daytime running lights and tail lights to fail. So, when the mechanic had to do a safety inspection he disconnected it to get the lights working.
So, the one I thought was live since the old deck had used it was in fact dead. A little searching with the multimeter found the actual constant and switched power, and from there it was a snap. Not sure why the morons who put in the previous deck ran a new power line, since the factory ones are working fine, but whatever, its in now and I have my Alpine deck back. :)
Thanks again!
Brandon
