Hey everybody,

I drive an 04 Saturn Vue, with factory components up front, and factory rears in the doors.  I bought an Alpine CDA 9833, and over time have added an XM Direct and the iPod adapter.  Now, I'm ready for better sound.

There's not a lot of room in the Vue for a sub, and I don't need anything earth shattering.  Just clean.  I like to listen to hard rock.

So, I'd love some advice from you experts:  I think I need new speakers.  Do I also need an amp, or is the one in the 9833 sufficient?  Could you please recommend speakers and if necessary, and amp for this HU?

Thanks in advance!

If you replace the stock speakers you will want an amplifier to drive them, the deck power will not be enough. They will get both louder and much cleaner with dedicated power from an amp, a good 4 channel that matches whatever componants you get for the fronts would work great, and if you want you can get one strong enough to handle the rear doors too if you go that route.
Will need to know what size speakers are the factory stuff and what is your budget to accurately answer the rest.
You can probably get away with a small sealed box with an effecient 10" sub that can be tucked away in some extra space, a sub does make a huge difference even for hard rock, which is primarily what I listen to as well. That would require another small monoblock amplifer though or you could go with a 5 channel for everything.
