2005 Ram, installing aftermarket unit.

Hey guys, I need to get an aftermarket headunit working. 2005 Ram, will the Metra 70-6512 work? What is avaiable right now to get the aftermarket headunit working in combination with the factory amp? I heard Soundgate gots something, who else beside Soundgate is jumping in for the $$$? I have tested out a few things, but relatant to try anything futher. I am slightly worry about some data sensivity issue to the since not much infomation is available at the moment. Bypassing the amp is not what I have in mind. Anyway, any input into this topic is greatly appreciated guys.Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.

I didn't think the RAM had any data sensitive wires passing through the OEM HU for the 2005 year ? I used a normal wiring harness for the last one that I did and it was no different than any of the late model Chrysler or Dodge cars that I did. I used Scosche CR02 for my harness ( which is the same as the  70-6512 I believe ).Jeff

according to our metra book its a 70-6502. If it has infinity its a 70-6512. You should be ok with just the harness, but then again I havent done one yet.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Hey Jeff, I didn't think there is any thing either, but without proper information it doesn't exactly build my confidence either. I hate to know that a previous GM audio/tech engineering guy now works at Dodge. CR02 is the same as 70-6502.   I have try and will not work. 70-6512 is up to 2004, Metra said nothing-about 2005. If anyone knows where the factory amp is located please give me a hand and pointed it out. It will save me a bit of time in locating it. I will have another shot at it again this weekend. Still searching for more information on this topic. I have had the dubious displeasure of doing one of these. Here's what I know: 1) Audio leaves deck as L, R, Gnd, accompanied by a pair of data wires. Audio heads to amp, the data wires do all audio contro functions. 2) Amp lives at top of dash, behind the passenger airbag.    Not fun to get at.... and not a whole lot of wire to get at. Basically, you need to bypass the amp. The rear speakers are sttraight forward, so are the doors. Highpass the dash speakers with I think a 4.7mfd cap ... something in the 300Hzish range. As far as the centre tweeter? I didn't worry about it.... no one noticed. Now, here is the crappy part... there isn't a whole helluva lot of wire to work with, and there isn't much room to do everything at the amp. It can be done, but it ain't very fun. I really can't see an interface that will control the factory amp yet.... there's quite a bit going on there, and just isn't a simple plug and play deal anymore. Sounds like I may have to work and earn my money on this one. Which contraption did you use, if any?    I might give it a shot with the 70-6512, but I think the 70-6502 look like the route I have to take and a bit of elbow grease running new wires. SoundGate will soon have an interface to get the Infinity amps to turn on when replacing the head unit. The part is the REMOTE 6. It will also do steering wheel controls. That part is still a couple months away from hitting the market. Jazzy

Coming soon has alway been the line when you most needed it. I bet they will charge an arm and a leg for it, just like the GM harness. On the other hand, you will have to explain to the customer that there was a lot of investment made on the R&D so they are price a little higher to compensate for the R&D. I just ran wire over to the amp location, capped the dash speakers at like 400Hz or so. Was not too bad, just fairly cramped for space up in there. If I had to do it over, I would cap at the speakers themselves. Gus Wherever I go, that is where I end up......
