I recently completed a restoration of a classic British car which does not have a radio. I'd like to use my iPod without installing a radio. A friend indicated that I'd need to connect the iPod to an amp in order to drive a pair of speakers. My goal is to keep the car's look classic without the appearance of a radio, yet still have access to music by "plugging in" my iPod to a wired amp and speaker set-up.

Being new to car audio, I'm not sure if this can be done.

Yes, absolutely, and it's pretty easy. Simplest would be having an amp & speakers pre-rigged by a shop with an 1/8" headphone jack to plug into the headphone slot on your iPod, then you control everything thru the iPod. Be sure to have them set the amp gains for the iPod you're using, as the volume out of those is fairly low.

i would also recommend installing a line driver.....installedge makes them and they are only about 15 or 20 bucks....it will take the signal voltage from the ipod and step it up to a higher voltage....thus less gain and better sound quality

Where theres is a wire there's a way.
