i installed 2 infinity kappa perfect 10's in my friends jeep but then we took one out due to lack of space, so he has been with 1 10" kappa perfect. we were planning on upgrading to a 12 and are wondering what subwoofers out there are comparable to the kappa perfect in the fact that it is great for sq and that is all that matters... any ideas?

Need to know how much space you're working with. I hate recommending products that I own, but the Image Dynamics IDQ is a good sounding sub that works in very very small enclosures. Not the deepest subwoofer, nor the cleanest, but very good for the price and enclosure size. However, I don't know if it will be any better than a Kappa Perfect. Kappas are nice subs. Go with the VDQ or whatever the variable Q Perfect is called and it'll work in a wide variety of applications.

If you want good sound with a punch go with 6 or 8 inch. A 100 watt stereo is on twice as loud as a 10 watt.

Whoa whoa whoa a Perfect would *eat* a Type R for breakfast seriously.
The Kappa Perfect is a *very* competetive speaker, particularly at the price.
I'm sure .6 is a certainly an unrealistic box-size for *any* 12", but not for a single 10"... I would imagine a 10" Perfect would sound mind-blowingly clean in a sealed chamber of the volume.
Stick with Infinity for those 10's you'll be glad ya did.

Actually, the 12" IDQ doesn't model up too bad in a .6ft^3 box, and ID recommends as low as .55 for the "12.

I would seriously consider it.

Anything smaller than .5ft^3, to fit a 12" you need an expensive high excursion, high power handling subwoofer, serious power, and serious eq.  This option is probably too expensive for your friend.

Stick with the Infinity.  Those subs have amazing SQ for the price.
That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

I agree.  Even if other subs like the IDQ would work, it doesn't seem like an upgrade worth taking.  Your friend stands to gain very little, in my opinion.

He should concentrate on his front end, regardless of what it is, imo.
