I have just purchased a 98 pontiac Trans-Am. Although the Monsoon system is pretty decent as far as factory systems go I'm looking to completely replace it. Unfortunately, having shelled out all of my available cash for the car I find myself relatively short of funds. I figure the first thing I'll do is put some subs in untill I go back to full time work in the spring and i can afford a complete system upgrade. I'm thinking of getting a pair of  Alpine SWR-1041D (dual 4 ohm voice coils) in a sealed box powered by an MTX Thunder6500D Amp (I'm gonna wire the dual voice coils in series then wire bothspeakers together in parrallel for a total 4 Ohm load bridged)I realize the subs will be underpowered but I should  be able to pick up a second MTX in a couple of weeks or so and push each speaker seperately with the coils wired down to 2 Ohms. Will this work? Is there a better way? Any comments, suggestions, or criticisms of my logic would be greatly appreciated.

Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.

Sounds good! Like you said wire the two subs in 4 ohms so you get a 2 ohm load once you put them together on the one channel. Once you get the 2nd amp then wire them down to 2 ohms each. The 2 amps will out power the subs a little so be sure to turn down the gains a little. Also be sure to use a fused  4 Gauge cable for both your power and ground cables But one you get that all together it should sound nice.

no what your doing sounds great, and will sound great I own a set of the Type R 10" (I use dual 2ohm) to make up for the hard punch the Type R 15" lacks,  the tens say 1000 watt peak but they are tested at 2200 watt failure after 2 1/2 hours playing pink noise.  I have to say that you have made a good choice in gear.
