'97sebring battery location

i'm installing an L712 with a KX550.2 amp in a "97 Chrystler Sebring. It sounds good, but when I turn it up the amp shuts off into safe mode.  After a few seconds the amp kicks back in but shuts down again on a hard beat.

Could this have anything to do with the location of the battery? On Sebring's the battery is located behind the fender well of the front drivers side tire.  The battery connects to a block where everything is connected to that leads to the battrery.  This is where i have the amp running from. could this be my problem or am I just overlooking something simple. (which is usually the case)

Big 3= upgrading your vehicles wiring to aid in power delivery and lower ground resistance. Larger ground wire from battery to chassis, alternator to battery, and engine block to chassis. Also look at the sticky titled "What is a proper Ground". The big 3 (or 4) should have been the first thing you did when started your install. Also check woofer impedance to make sure that is not what is sending your amp into protection. If your impedance is okay and you do the big 3 (or 4) and still have problems, you may need to add an extra battery or get a HO alternator.

what is your impeadance at the amp? if its too low for the amp to support, it will shut off and go in to protection to keep from frying out.

Thanks for the posts guys,  ya'll are right.  i made the stupid mistake of putting a 4 ohm amp with a 2 ohm sub.

The amp is 2 ohm stable, but of course bridged its 4 0hm, and the sub is a 4 ohm DVC.

I've built a ported box for the sub. But even then I don't think the amp can push a solo-baric 12 on 1 channel.
