Allright, I know its supposed tobe easy as buying 2 stes of ford keys to remove these radios but I dont know how to get the one out of my mazda tribute. Im wondering if jabing the keys up there to far can push the mechanism that holds it out too far and I might be in trouble. Anyone ever pushed the tabs back too far? I'm tearing up my wifes dash trying to yank that thing out and she is pretty unhappy. Please help if you can

The only way that hte keys won't work is if you slide them in and miss the holes that the spring steel tabs are. Normally the keys would just slide in and by pulling to each side of the deck this will pull the spring steel clips in and allow you to remove the deck.

Ill try it one more time. Try a little more bending and alligning I guess. I even took out the tape drive fascia
to get leverage on this thing. If it dont work, I think mazda may be getting 40 bucks outta me because I am defeated. Thanks you so much for replying and giving me a boost to keep trying.

Before you go to Mazda if you can't seem to get it out, hit up a local stereo shop.  It shouldn't run you $40.

I think I have an old Ford deck here somewhere. I'll try to get some pics of the actual spring steel tabs to show you how it works so that you know what your up against. Like I said.... if I can find it

You're probably just pushing the keys in too far, scroll down to see: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/840939.

One more try. Ive tried every way but I'll give it one last try this morning. The 01 has only 4 holes and the Double DIN has 5 per side. Do the extra holes on top actually hold anything?

Well I broke down and took it to Mazda. They cannot get it either so I dont feel so stupid. Now we have to wait two weeks to replace the stereo because I guess it was warranted and it had two defective buttons. So now in about three weeks I will get a new head unit installed and then try again to yank that one out. Should be easier next time around. Now I'll have to try to touch up the dash where I put a thousand scratches all over the silver paint.
