A customer came to our shop today with some product he had purchased from Crutchfield. We did the install 2 years ago. The products are all kenwood except the pre-loaded mtx (with amp) enclosure under the back seat. The Kenwood seperates in the door are running off of deck power. As are the rears. The outputs from the deck are being used to feed the MTX enclosure. HERES the problem. As he is driving down the raod, after 20 min. or so, everything is warm and the deck drops the volume, it does not quit playing, it just gets real quiet. Shut the unit off, turn it back on after say a 10 min. wait. Plays perfectly. Sit in the garage, jam for 15 or 20...NO PROBLEMO.

The truck has a new battery, no other electrical problems...????

ANY IDEA'S?

I assume this is an issue that just appeared after working fine for two years?  Is it worse now that he needs to run heat in his truck?  Sounds like a heat-related failure of the HU amplifier to me.  Replacement time most likely.

Si.  01 Silverado volume goes down -- posted image.  Just tell him it's broken and direct his attention to your fine array of head units in the display against the wall...

The part that kills me is....why would it not just shut off? instead of decreasing output?
