RF Changer Advice

HiI have searched the topics and this question doesn't seem to have been asked yet.I have an Audi A3 with a factory fitted Chorus Tape/Radio. I am looking to add a CD player and seemingly the 2 options I have are a RF Chnager in the boot with extra remote on the dash or take out the existing head unit and replace with an aftermarket frontloader. i would rather take the first option from a cosmetic poit of view but I've heard conflicting reports about the quality of the RF changers when played through a radio station. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It's a 1999 A3, I live in South Africa so I'm not too sure what models you might be familiar with. It's a 3-door hatchback. The radio/tape is one of those that looks like it's part of the dash, so putting a standard headunit in would require a little trimming around the outside to fill it out which I'm trying to avoid.
