i bought a cavalier as is. It has an aftermarket alarm system i dont know which kind, and also a viper remote starter in it. I know the remote start fob  battery needs to be replaced/Or its busted.     I crank the key, "i dont hear the fuel pump turn on or humm", all it does is cranks nothing comes on, I have spark, and there is pressure coming up to the engine. well now.. we spray starter fluid in the throttle body, and it Starts!, if we keep spraying it will stay on, but we only had it run for about 5seconds.

what do you think it is, iv had guys tell me, yeah its the alarmsystem, thats causing the fuel injectors to cut off.2 its causing the fuel pump to cut off. 3 other people tell me that it does and doesn't cut the fuel injectors Or fuel pump off!....so i dont know what to do.or what it is.  i havn't did a fuel pressure test yet but i put my ear up to the gas cap and i hear the fuel pump make a noise like its stuck or something.

"remember we did have it started with starter fluid"  should i have someone take the alarm system out, or the remote starter system.. Or Both?  thanks

also replaced plugs n wires

wassup fellow michigander.... first off.. it sounds as if your problem could definitely be mechanical.... first off.. if the remote start is affecting anything u would know it becuase it probably won't even allow the car to start at all.... now this car does have passlock 1... so if there is a defective bypass on the remote start it could certainly be lending to the problem... but if that was the case u would see a light on the dash blinking while the problem is occurring that says theft.. or security......

if this is a light that u see when the car is not starting.. it very well could be related to the remote start.....  check this and post again.... should u see this light u can remedy the situation by leaving the key in the run position for 10 to 20 minutes.. the security light will go solid.. then go out.... now remove the key from the ignition.. re-insert and start the car....

there can be only one.......

it's either one of two things..... either the factory passlock system is fine.. or the factory passlock module is malfunctioning.....  in either case there may not be a lot u can do... get it to a mechanic... they may complain about the system being on there so u may wanna have it removed from the car if u can.... thats the best advice i can give without more info......

another thing.. check all fuses and relays.... u could have a circuit in the car that isn't getting power somewhere...

there can be only one.......

gonna have someone come look at it to take it out,.. a person said could do it for 20$, and other people say thay cant do it for less then 40$ people off craigslist that  know what there doing i guess..

my dad has gmdealerworld service information cuz he works.GM

you think if i found the the factory passlock module......? if i did what would i do to it or whatever?

or should i have someone just take the stuff out..

(and now/what do you think it is the alarm system or remote starter) thanks

i did what you said, the light doesnt even come on .... but i did figure the system is all in one viper remote/alarm system...and theres no battery in the remote...

sprayed more starter fluid and it stayed runnin for 5-10seconds then cut off, spits n sputtered as well.

should i have someone take it out

sounds like u definitely have some sort of mechanical or possible electrical issues w/ the car... if it were my car.. i would remove the system.. or possible even just disable it... and take it to a mechanic and just tell him it don't start..... let em figure it out.. after all.. thats what the pros get paid to do......

had someone take it out.

BUT they cut somewires, which i didn't want them to do. AND i didn't know they cut the wires i found out after they left my house/

I could have tooken it out myself if i was gonna cut wires.

but its still doing the same thing, Only when i try to crank the car sounds like it has MORE potential to start then before/

its still getting fuel pressure, and idn. My dad told me to check the fuel injector wires to see if theres voltage there. im not exactly sure how to do it though/

an its either that

OR a Bad PCM/ ICM right?

i know when i crank it and the stop cranking i here clicking sounds over under the glove compartment? thats where the pcm is but "my teacher said pcm doesn't have anything that clicks, its a relay or something"????

what do you think i should do.? my next step and suggestions

sounds like u might be hearing a relay clicking... typically when really are just clicking away is because they are tryin to get a ground.... but u might wanna pull the glovebox or the underdash apart over there and try to isolate where thats coming from..... tough to say though.... u could just be chasing your tail on this one.. u said that your father works for gm.... might be time to call in a favor..... a service manuel for that car would probably be nice... but idk.... i would probably have to see the car to get anymore insight....
