DEI 712T install in 2000 Cherokee question
I bought Directed 712T Keyless Entry System for my 2000 Jeep Cherokee (XJ). XJ has power OEM locks. I'd like to enable three unlocks, on driver door lock, all doors lock, and rear hatch lock.
----------712T ------------------------ Cherokee
pins -- color ---- purpose -------- color ------- remarks / question
H1/2 -- BL --- all doors unlock -- PK/VT ---- relay: 85=BL, 86=+12V, 87=GND, 87a=N/C, 30=PK/VT
H1/5 -- GN/BK- driver door unlock-- OR/VT ---- A diode put in to block other doors, but what size?
H1/7 -- VT/BK- drvr dr unlk input-- RD ------- +12V
H1/8 -- BL/BK- all doors lock------ PK/BK ----
H1/9 -- VT --- all dr unlk input--- RD ------- +12V
H1/10-- WT --- park lights flash--- BK/YL ---- Is a diode needed? If so, what amp rating?
H1/11-- BK --- GND ---------------- chassis -- chassis ground
H1/12-- BN --- horn honk ---------- BK/RD ---- Is straight connection ok?
H1/15-- YL --- switched ignition -- DB ------- (DB=dark brown)
H1/17-- RD/WT- rear hatch unlock -- PK/BK ---- relay: 85=RD/WT, 86=+12V, 87=+12V, 87a=PK/BL (to other
doors), 30=PK/VT
I know in some other posts it states that unlock for this Cherokee is on PK/VT (pink-violet) lead and with a negative trigger, and I confirmed that and would like to use it for progressive unlock, with 2nd pulse unlock ouput. While looking for leads to unlock just the driver door, I experimented with leads running into the door lock motor, PK/BK and OR/BK leads. Since I assumed they were negative trigger, I shorted the motor leads in turn to chassis but there was no movement. I then shorted them in turn to +12V and the motor moved. That why the 712T's pin H1/7 and H1/9 are connected to the +12V source. Please correct me if my assumption is incorrect.
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard

First off, you're mistaken as to how you can control unlock on a single door. More on that briefly; I'll address the other wires first.
Parking lights - direct connection is fine, no diode is necessary. I don't think the factory circuit draws more than the 10A that the 712T can safely put out, so you'll be allright there.
Horn - direct connection is fine. Obviously be careful when testing for said wire since it may well be in the same harness as the driver's airbag. Use nothing but a DMM when testing it.
Ignition - it should be dark blue, not brown, on your car.
Now for the locks:
1. As with any type A doorlock system, your Jeep's factory setup uses low current positive outputs from the switches in order to activate the lock/unlock relays. These are on, respectively, the ORANGE / violet and pink/violet wires. They will control all doors together.
2. To control an individual doorlock, you need to go to the unlock motor lead for that door. Motor leads are always reversing polarity, and you need to isolate them via relay, not diode.
(It might help you and anyone else reading this to keep in mind what our industry uses diodes for - generally they are only used on low-current circuits, with the notable exception of L-R split (+) parking light systems).
You're right on the pink/black if that's the driver's motor lead that worked for unlocking that door. It should be cut, and the side facing the motor connected to the blue/black unlock output from the 712T. The other side would go to the BROWN / black unlock normally closed. The violet unlock normally open would get 12V as you've stated.
3. For the all doors lock/unlock - I think you're on the right track. It looks like you've switched around GREEN/ black and blue/black in your table. GREEN/ black should go to the ORANGE / violet on the car, with the violet "lock" input connected to 12V. The blue 2nd unlock would activate a relay as you've posted, with the exception that 87 should also be 12V.
4. The back hatch can basically be treated the same way as the driver's door, if you want to control it with the RED / white output.
5. There is conflicting info on this site as to whether or not the wires from the switches are positive or negative. I've assumed positive since I don't remember any Jeep ever with negative locks, but if you've tested them and they go to ground with the switch pressed, then you were right on your relay setup and the violet lock input would also go to ground.

chriswallace187 -- Thank you for a detailed feedback and catching my errors.
I installed my 712T today but chickened out and opted for a simpler wiring with no external relay, no progressive unlock, and no hatch unlock.
<---------712T-------------><------Jeep XJ----------->
pin#--color-----use------>>><<<<--
H1/1 -- RD --- +12V supply ------- RD ------- C1-7 (ignition switch)
H1/2 -- BL --- 2nd unlock output -- not used
H1/3 -- BK/WT1- domelight input #87A --- not used, maybe later
H1/4 -- BK/WT - domelight output #30 --- not used, maybe later
H1/5 -- GN/BK- all dr lock output-- OR/VT ---- C305-6
H1/6 -- WT/BK- lock #87A normally closed --- not used
H1/7 -- VT/BK- all dr lock input-- chassis ------- GND
H1/8 -- BL/BK- all dr unlk output------ PK/VT ---- C305-7
H1/9 -- VT --- all dr unlk input--- chassis ------- GND
H1/10-- WT --- park lights flash--- BK/YL ---- C201-45
H1/11-- BK --- GND ---------------- chassis -- GND
H1/12-- BN --- horn honk ---------- BK/RD ---- C1-1 (horn switch)
H1/13--GN/BK-- factory alarm disarm ---not used
H1/14--WT/BL-- CH3 output ---------not used
H1/15-- YL --- switched ignition -- DkBL ------- C1-9 (ignition switch)
H1/16-- OR --- ground when armed output --- not used
H1/17-- RD/WT- unlock #87A normally closed --- not used
Ignition switch connection to YL line doesn't seem to do anything. I thought that connection enables horn and parking lights activity when key is inserted and turned to ignition without unlocking with a FOB? Parking lights work fine when locking, unlocking, or when pressing the star button, and horn honks when pressing AUX/lock, AUX/unlock, or with the star button. Am I misunderstanding something?
I had Viper 560VX installed by a professional on my other car about 5 years ago. On that one, by default it chirps and parking lights blinks when pressing lock or unlock button and it disables chirps by pressing AUX prior to lock or unlock. But my new Valet 712T works backwards -- it's quiet by defaut and chirps (actually honks on my Jeep) only if I press AUX prior to pressing lock or unlock. Is there a way to make 712T behave like the 560VX?
Also, is there a way to have 712T alert when I press lock button and if a door is ajar?
Again, thanks in advance,
Richard
