remote start on 08 subaru impreza

Hi Everyone. I have a new 08 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport that I am considering a remote start for. I have installed these on a few vehicles already, but the newest was a 2003 Xterra without the factory power locks and windows. The Subie will be much more involved. Also it is a manual transmission. What do I need to know as far as immobilizers, manual transmission issues, and how do I avoid carrying two remotes? Is there a kit that would work for all of this or do I need additional stuff? All of the systems I have done were DEI products, but I am wondering what you guys recommend for this car. I dont mind scrapping the factory remote, I hear I cant get it to do both. Thanks

I have an 07 STI and had an 04 STI both had copmpustar starter/alarm. My wife has an 03 Beetle Turbo with a compustar starter/alarm since feb. 06, and never had a single issue with any of them. I would only recommend Compustar, by far the best imho. A little expensive, but worth it.

I have been doing this a long time and I have done a few new Subaru's and judging by your questions you are new to this ..which is fine but I do not suggest doing a new Subaru. They are not hard but the access around the transponder ring is really tight. The top cover of the column cover doesn't come off and it is a bitch to do the wrap. Hopefully you don't have a telescopic wheel, only tilt as this makes it even harder as your harness has to move in and out and there is just not a lot of room under that cover. I know the Forester I did had telescopic, I forget about the impreza. As far as a bypass save your money as it only does locks and disarm and the wires are right there and easy to get to. For the key I always just use a relay and wire as it works a lot better in the cold then the key in the box bypass units. But again getting the wire wrap around your barrel is a bitch, look at it and you will see there is just no room. My 2 cents...:)

im a compustar user myself, everyone has their own preferance. If you want to bypass the immobilizer, there are a few options. you can use a key in box and store a valet key in there (loose 1 key) or you can use a data bypass from fortin, idatalink, bypasskits, etc. They all require dealer programming scan tools, howver you dont loose a key.
