I have a 2004 F250 Superduty 6 liter diesel.

I tried to install a Prostart CT 5472TW and had problems with the install.  I then took it to a 12 volt installer in town and he told me he would clean up the install and fix it. (cost was $200 canadian.  After I got the truck back I had issues relating to the Instument panel.  The gauges would shut off and turn on while the truck was running.  My radio and power windows would also stop working.  The guages kept turning on and off.  Today it was mostly the Tach that would turn off anf go to 0 rpm and the check engine light and check gauges light would come on.

I took it back to the installer and he rechecked everything and said all the wiring was good.  He thought it may be my vsm or pcm module.  (he could not pull codes off the truck)  I told him a OBDII reader would not work on a 04 Powerstroke and it needed a CAN reader.  To finish up I have this issue with the instrument panel that i need fixed.  At this time moeny is an issue and I do not want to take it to a mechanic.  He also told me that I may have damaged one of the modules during my failed attempt at the install.  (although they worked when I drove it to him)

do you get this problem just when you remote start the truck or does it happen even when you use the key to start it? it cant be a bypass problem because im sure your truck doesn't need one so that only leaves a wiring problem. i would have your "installer" check if there are any wires running behind the instrument cluster that are not right and i would also make sure he tapped the right wire for tach sense. also you should make sure the installer didn't miss any extra accessory or ignition wires. if your instrument cluster malfunctions on and off i would also be looking for any loose connections or plugs that might not be in all the way.
i dont really have any experience with that alarm so i really cant tell you anything specific but these are just common sense things to check for judging from the problems you are having. if it is not a permanently damaged computer or something serious it is probably something dumb like a loose connection.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I will check a behind the dash myself after I finish my work shifts Tuesday.  I am frustrated with the installer as he seems to blame me or something wrong with the truck.

Also the problems are there when I remote start or Key start.  This vehicle did not have keyless entry OEM.

I'm still having problems with the instrument panel.  I went to ask another local installer if he knew why it would be happening.  He was not sure (although he did not look).  I put a OBD2/Can reader on it and pulled no codes off it. (my check engine light comes on also)  Also the reason the installer could not pull codes is the fuse was blown for the pcm.

Right now it's mostly my tach going down to 0 and the check guages and check eingine light is on.  Before all of my gauges would shut off and I could not even access my power windows.

Very frustrated.  Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a loose plug/connection.  I installed a remote start on a jeep grand cherokee and had problems after the install.  The check engine light came on and ABS.  Was trying to figure out what it could be and all it needed was just a C-hair of a push to lock in a bcm plug.  Good Luck

My first thought was an ignition switch issue....

I have checked the grounds and every connection that he made.  The only thing I can't check is if all the connections are the correct ones?  I undid the grounds and cleaned them up and retightened them.

I'm hoping the instrument cluster did not get damaged somehow.

These diagrams may help you diagnose your electrical issue.
