I have a 2003 Aurora with a Viper 5901 and a DEI DLPKGM immobilizer. I bought the databus immobilizer so I would not have to wire into all my doors to pick up the door triggers. The door trigger output on the DLPKGM is intermittent. When testing with a multimeter, I would have to open and close the doors 2 times or more to get an output from the DLPKGM. I'm using the D2D connection between the 5901 and the DLPKGM. The remote starter and the keyless entry work fine over the databus. Would a xk01 or xk06 have been a better choice? Do I have a defective immobilizer or is there anything else to try first?

XK06 does immobilizer only.
I've done mostly just remote start/keyless on those cars, but I've tested the door trigger output from the GM-DLBP and XK01 on those cars, and it seemed to work consistently enough for me.
No experience with the DLPKGM.
Not sure how well DEI's D2D setup works, but I know that using Audiovox alarms/starters with the XK01 was always hit-or-miss, poorly documented, poorly supported.
Not sure if the regular "analog" door trigger output from your module would work with the rest of it hooked up on D2D mode or not.
I'd try putting your tester on the DLPKGM's door trigger output, and see if it works.
If it seems to work OK, you might try hardwiring it to the DEI's door trigger input and see if you have better luck.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but that is how I have it wired and was testing it. Tried it both ways actually.
Do the GM-DLBP and XK01 need to have vehicle specific firmware loaded on them or are they self learning?
    Any other ideas?

The only other one you could do would be the XK01. You lose your tach function off the module though, but basically the same thing.
I would recommend verifying your solder connection is good and has good contact to your OBD port and your door trigger connection to your brain. If you used t-taps remove it now.
Otherwise if that does not work, you can try a different module, or just wire the door triggers in manually.
To answer your firmware question you should have this version for the DLPKGM vH00.S00.D02
Here's a manual for that
