My remote starter starts my dodge ram but it shuts off after a couple of seconds. It shuts off no matter if the doors are locked or not. I do not have the manual on this since I bought the truck with it in already. The owner seemed to think it may be in a "test mode", but I don't know how to change it. Any Help is appreciated.

Try remote starting the truck while it is running and then removing the key from the ignition - what happens?

I turned the key on and started the truck with the remote. It stays running.

I do have a check engine lite on for a torque converter problem. This in itself does not effect the vehicle running, but will the remote computer pick up the check lite and shut down?

Aftermarket remote start shouldn't be affected by the check engine light.
Since it's a black key, you do NOT have Chrysler's Sentry Key anti-theft system.......that is, there's no security chip in the key. So nothing to worry about there.
I'd guess the same as Howie, that the remote starter's not sensing the tachometer signal from the engine. That's a common connection to come loose, too.
Look under the hood, at the back "firewall" where all the wires come through from the dashboard to connect to the various parts of the engine.
Look around there for any non-factory looking wire(s).
There will likely be one wire running from the firewall to the engine (this is the tachometer connection), and possibly another wire running to a safety switch that gets pushed down when the hood is closed. (Hood switches are sometimes, but not always installed. You may not have one.)
Anyway, so what you want to do is find that tachometer wire, follow it to where it goes on the engine..........errant mechanics or simple time/weather/vibration often cause this wire to become disconnected.
If it's not connected, or if you think the connection is dirty or not very good, try to redo/reclean the connection and see if it works then.
