2004 honda accord rear defogger

I have a Viper 5101 Remote Start system. It is going in a 2004 Honda Accord. I have located what I believe is the correct rear defogger wire. It is a large BLACK / YELLOW wire which rests at ground and shows 12 volts when the rear defogger button on the dash is activated. Is this the correct way to hook it up using a relay: 85-status output 86-12v 87-12v 30-BLACK / YELLOW defogger wire in vehicle Thanks.

I would skip the add-on relay altogether. Find the factory defogger relay, use your DMM to identify which is the control terminal (most likely it's 85, and should go to ground with the defogger active). Once you've done that, just solder the status output to that terminal, taking care that there aren't loose strands of wire that might accidentally short the other relay terminals. The indicator light on the dash won't come on this way, but you can confirm that it's working if the relay clicks on when the remote start's activated.C Renner's Auto Electronix
