488v replacement transmitter

I purchased a 488V Viper Transmitter off of Amazon that I believed would be compatible with my system. My current remote says "Clifford" on the front but the back shows all the same specs as the Viper remote (RPN 488/V/P/X, FCC ID: EZSDEI487). This was the second "Clifford" remote I have gotten since I broke the original. My second remote is now broken and the antenna has fallen out causing me to only be able to start my car from about a foot away (useless). I remember having some difficulty getting the "Clifford" remote to program last time but it the end I somehow got it working. My current system will lock, unlock and remote start my vehicle. I do not believe it has any security functions installed. I have attempted to program the remote starter by opening my door, turning the key to on and then pushing the valet once, releasing and then holding the valet down. With the valet held down, I press the * key on my new Viper remote which is suppose to remotely start my vehicle. I have tried pushing 11 times to delete the codes and then following the same process above and nothing seems to be working. Any tips on getting my remote start to learn my system? Is my remote not compatible with the system or am I doing something wrong in the installation process?

I have a 2002 Ford Taurus. Not sure if it is relevant to my problem.

when your holding the button down do you get 1 siren chirp? If so then you need to press the lock button to program the remote..

I don't here any chirp but I also don't think its hooked up to my siren.

do what you did for programing but press lock instead of the * button.

I had tried do the programming the same way selecting all 4 buttons and none worked. What did work for me was I took apart the Viper remote and removed the antenna. I then used the chip/motherboard on my old Clifford remote and soldered the new antenna onto the old chip. I then put the case back together and had a remote that not only had good range because of the soldered antenna, the case also wasn't cracked like my old remote and was already programmed to my system. This is definitely not how it suppose to be done, however it's another option for people who still have old parts from their remote.
