I have a Valet 551t add-on remote starter and the DEI 555C Chrysler transponder bypass module that I want to add to my 03 PT Cruiser GT. I have all the included instructions and wiring charts needed. After reviewing these many, many times, and reviewing this, the DEI and the carsound forums, I am left with the following questions that any help with would be appreciated before I start splicing wires!
I have determined that the Chrysler remote will work when the car is already running (by key and in Park), starting the car does not set off the factory alarm (at least when it is set from the inside such that opening the door will trigger it), and the car of course has starter anti-grind and neutral safety starter lockout protections.
I have no remote start or alarm install experience, but do all my own car maintenance and modifications, and have installed many electrical accessories in cars and can follow (clear) directions. I'd like to avoid adding more relays, resistors or diodes, as I only have a vague understanding of them.
So, my questions are:
1. The 555C says to hook its blue (-) activation input wire to the "(-) through activation output of the remote start system." Is this the WHITE/ blue "(-) activation input" wire in the 551t primary harness, which says it can be connected to an auxiliary channel of a security system or to a keyless entry system? I assume it's not since I don't know how pressing the OEM remote would send a signal to the 555C or remote start that way, but the similarity in wording is throwing me off.
2. Assuming the answer above is no, does the 555C connect to the 551t light GREEN/ black (-) factory security disarm wire which supplies a single negative pulse when remote start occurs, thereby energizing the 555C transponder?
3. Since starting the car (at least with the key) doesn't set off the alarm, do I have to connect the 551t yellow (+) ignition output wire to the ignition input of the OEM security or keyless entry modules? (Note that the Chrysler service manual only shows ignition "output" wires for the security and keyless modules.)
4. I understand that I can use the unused 551t pink/white (+) second ignition output wire to flash the lights (instead of the white(-) light flash output wire with relay); is this correct? Any reason I can't flash the headlights instead of the parking lights since my OEM remote already flashes the parking lights?
5. If I don't want/need the toggle override switch, I understand I can just permanently ground the 551t BLACK/ white neutral safety switch input wire (as the vehicle already has such a lockout feature); is this correct?
6. Assuming the 551t WHITE/ blue (-) activation input should be connected to the OEM keyless entry system, and since I want to use the 3x pulse on the OEM LOCK button to trigger a remote start, but do not necessarily need to trigger the door locks when doing so, can I just connect the activation wire to the main door lock relay output (ORANGE / black) wire or driver door lock relay output wire (without adding the DEI specified relays and resistors, since the 551t activation wire just needs to receive 3 pulses from this wire)?
7. Can I connect everything as proposed, following all the normal precautions, to see if it works and tests out OK, without damaging the existing systems?
Under the above proposed wiring scenario, it would appear that I don't need to connect the 551t (+) yellow ignition output to RF wire, (-) white light flash output wire, (-) gray/black diesel wire (other than to ground it while programming the 555C module), light green & light blue no function wires, (-) blue status/factory security rearm output wire, (-) blue/black third ignition output wire, or the violet/white tachometer input wire (to use voltage sense feature).
I understand that this would leave the car security alarm unarmed during the remote start, but I am comfortable with that as the doors will be locked and even if someone gets in, without a key the car will shut off when the brake pedal is pressed, which has to happen to take it out of Park.
Please advise if I've missed or misunderstood anything so I don't set my car on fire!
Thanks very much, Chuck.
