Hi, i'm about to attempt to do a remote start/alarm on a 2004 grand am. Is there any unexpected look outs i have to keep an eye out for? The one thing i have noticed on this car is the ignition switch is in the dash by the radio, is that a big problem? Also i read about databus connectors...what exactly is that for? The on-star and all that or is there a special harnesses for other items? This car is your basic entry level grand am.

As far as I know 04 Grand Am's are the same as 03's? (04 Grand Prixs changed). If so, you can get majority of your wire in the harness in the driver kick panel going into the firewall. If there are two harnesses parallel to each other running into the firewall you want the one higher up. In that harness you can find the following:
Constant: Thick Red +
Ignition 1: Thick Pink +
Starter: Thick Yellow +
Heater A/C: Thick Orange +
Parking Lights: Thin Brown +
Horn: Thin Black -
Then you will need to pull out the radio and grab the following from the ignition switch:
Ignition 2: Thick Green
Passlock wires: Black & Yellow (These will be in their own little 3 wire harness running into the main ignition cylinder harness. (Passlock 2 a DEI 555L works nice or the newer one that you don't even have to cut the yellow wire, you can just tap in)
Left Kick harness coming from door:
GREEN/ Black: (-) Driver Door trigger for dome supervision
BLACK/ White: (-) Trunk Pop
White: (Lock/Unlock) Will need a 1500 ohm resistor as well since this is a single wire system.
Should cover most of what you would need of course ASSUMING its the same as an 03..I heard it was but haven't worked on one yet so if they are different I apologize and hopefully someone else will chime in. Good luck,
