Passlock II, what is best bypass

Is this possiable?

2002 chev silverado

how about this cutting yellow wire taping the engine side into the orange and re-program passlock as follows:

Antitheft system consists of a hall effect switch in the ignition lock assembly that produces a calibrated voltage signal as the lock cylinder is turned. The voltage signal is used by the ECM antitheft system. If no or incorrect voltage is signaled, the ECM will shut off. When the mechanical ignition switch fails, it must be replaced along with the hall (Passlock) sensor. The system must be programmed after replacing the assembly.

 To reprogram:

1) When trying to start the engine, it will start and stall.

2) Leave the key on for 10 minutes while the “security” light flashes.

3) When it stops flashing, repeat steps 1 and 2 three more times.

By doing this have I permanatly disable paslock, to read its own restance, by avoiding the key wiring?

you're willing to permanently disable a fully functional antitheft device in a new vehicle?  what shop is that again?? 

why not get your hands on the proper bypass module....the PL2002/2003 (whichever one you can find...old stock still exists) is about $18.00 cdn if you're a dealer, and only taps into the yellow/black passlock wires rather than splicing in series like the somewhat cheaper "dipswitch" style bypasses.  this is desireable since if the passlock unit fails, it doesn't interrupt normal passlock function, and the vehicle can still be manually started  (seen too many need to be towed cause a $15 part failed!)

wire it properly, and you can both remote start till you're blue in the face AND retain passlock II....pretty nifty eh?

i just wanted to know if it could be done. ( ie are the re-program steps correct). This is my own truck. I have had the factory passlock replaced twice. it was underwarranty, but i just don;t like leaving my truck at the dealer ALL day. That way I can re-program and get rolling again.  temparyly of course. I drive 65K miles a year making delivers for FED EX so if im not moving Im not making money

now to the PL2002/2003. I like the idea of tapping into these wires rather than wirinng a unit in series. I heard, of coursr from the manufacture, that this is the best thing arround. once set correcttly never fails

were can I begin looking for the type that allows the onboard  PL to wrok even if after market unit fails? I do want to have a remote start unit installed

I can say the same for the PL2002/2003.  its a pot-based system (MUCH smaller than the one in this link), and once you set it up, it never loses memory or changes, etc.  if it fails, your remote start will simply not work...the vehicle remains functional.  this is THE one you want...don't muck around with that design tech crap.

the dei 555lw works great it learns the r code every time the ignition switch is cycled.  I have also used the pl2002 and have never had any problems.   :)

Bommars "PLDATA" is the easiest.

Connect power, ground, ground out when running, to your R.S., and then its just one wire to the obd 2 diagnostic connector, to the data wire.

In a production facility, the PLDATA is the "easiest" unit to install, but (at least in Canada) its one of the most expensive solutions.  For an extra 5 minutes work on the install in an already torn down car, I save about $9 per unit.  Do the math!!
