can you clear a check engine light on a 03' toyota matrix by unhooking the battery and letting it sit ?????

You can try it. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes. Then when you reconnect it make sure it doesn't arc when going back on.

Try autozone. They usually will check what happened and reset the code for free.

i reset the light with a snap on code scanner computer, and the code still comes back for a coil problem, so its looking like something in the ECU got fried when the tach signal was hooked up to the coil wire. looks like a simple install is a major problem now.....

gotta love cars......clearing check engine light on 03'toyota -- posted image.

Have you tried to disconnect the tach wire and see if it goes away?
