Trunk pop relay wiring for a 99 Accord

Is this the correct way to wire up a relay to use as the trunk pop on a 1999 Accord? My remote start unit has a negative pulse wire to activate the trunk pop but the trunk pop is positive. Crimestopper RS999FM. 86,87- Both to constant 12V 85- (-) output from Remote start unit 30- (+) output to trunk release wire 87a- not used Also What size fuse should I use on the 12volt supply wire?

yes, 16ga. for the power lead and don't forget the fuselivewire

A 10 amp fuse would be fine for a standard 2-5 lbs soleniod. I would also recommend that you install a 1N4001 1 amp diode to prevent any CEMF , or feed back of current on the coil. You would place the diode striped side (cathode -) on pin 85, and the other end (Anode +) would be on pin 86. At this point, proper polarity must be observed, or else you will damage the diode. ie. The +12 VDC will be applied to pin 85 and the remote output would be on pin 86. Regards EVIL Teken . . .

Thanks for the help. Let me see if I understand correctly. Hook up the +12 volt constant power supply and a 1N4001 diode with the (-) side to pin 85. Connect the other end to pin 86 along with the (-) trunk pop RS output.Then run a wire from pin 30 to the (+) trunk release wire in the car. Do I still need +12 volts to pin 87? Pin 87A-not used.

Yes, that is correct. And yes you will provide +12 VDC to terminal 87 of the relay. Regards EVIL Teken . . .

I am having trouble finding the correct wire for the trunk opener in my 99 Accord. I have my Crimestopper RS999 FM RS installed and everything is working except for it. I located two WHITE/ red wires( the correct color wire according to wiring charts) at the drivers kick panel. One has silver dots and the other has brown dots.But neither go the the trunk pop. I had my meter on both of them and neither shows 12 volts when hitting the trunk open button on the remote.The trunk pop and keyless entry were installed at the dealer when I bought the car new.They are Honda parts.I even tried the orange with silver dots wire in the driver kick panel hooked to the (-) output on the RS and no luck.The trunk pop still works fine with the Honda remote. The only wires at the solenoid are orange with silver dots,Black with silver dots and a blue/green wire.Any help would be appreciated.

If your soleniod is positive, opposed to being a negative souce unit you will not obtain the correct reading. ie. If all you did was ground the one side of your meter lead, and probed the other wire(s) then you would not obtain the correct reading. If you connected one side of the meter lead to a +12 volt souce, and took the other end of the meter lead and touched the same wires, then the reading would change / appear. ======================================================== Let me know what you get, and if after both tries from measuring it both ways you get nothing. Then the next logical step is to simply go directly to the trunk soleniod and see what wire has been interfaced to the unit. You never know, they may have spliced into another wire, or used another available PJ in the vehicle for power. Regards EVIL Teken . . .

Thanks for your quick reply! The wiring diagram I have shows the orange with silver dots as the trunk pin (-)? It says the correct wire is the WHITE/ red in the kick panel(+). At first I only noticed one of the wires as being WHITE/ red in the harness coming from the drivers kick panel. the other was on the bottom and not visible. I hooked up my relay(wired with a diode as we discussed a few posts back) But when I hit the trunk button it blew my 10 amp fuse on the first try. I guess that wire is (-)? So I should hook my meters hot lead to a 12 volt source and probe the wires with the negative lead? then when I hit the trunk button I should see 12 volts? I am assuming the soleinoid is (+) because that is what the diagrams show.

Teken, I now have the trunk pop working. Our Accord is the LX model which didn't come with the keyless entry and trunk pop from the factory.So the dealer installed the optional Honda kit in the car.Along with the module they installed a four pin relay for the trunk pop. I only had to hook up the RS (-) trunk pop wire to the relay and now it works fine.For your information the relay had two constant 12 volt wires(WHITE/ red) and the other two wires for the trunk pop and the one that I hooked the RS wire to were blue/green Thanks for your help!
