What is a good way to hook up a backup battery so that it ONLY supplies the alarm with energy and NOT the rest of the car?  I am looking to install a 12v 1.3 amp battery

Can't you just run the power wire of the backup battery
straight to the alarm module? So, if someone cuts
the main battery, the backup battery will know and
take over? Maybe I'm not familiar enough with them.

You can run the pos. wire from your B+ side of your alternator to the pos. terminal on your back-up batt. then ground the batt. to the chassis.  Find your alarm power wire and run that to your back-up battery.  If you do this set-up make sure you fuse at the alternator and at the batt
