I'm looking for someone who could assist me with some questions regarding the install of my Autopage 850-lcd on my 98 civic ex. This is my first alarm install, so please bear with my ignorance that comes along with this. My first question is regarding the hood pin. Says i need to connect with diode. Do i need to go buy this diode, since apparently it didn't come with the alarm? If so where from? Also it shows a WHITE/ black wire(negative safety) going to the pin switch, and another wire that says "To: Alarm instant trigger Blue wire" What does this mean? how does the wiring for this pin switch work? i thought it would be just one wire going to the switch but it doesn't seem that way now.
Another question is about the remote start enable toggle switch. can i hook this wire to the ebrake wire?
Also the H8 10-pin white output wire connector confuses me. Some wires appear to be optional and not used?
If anyone could off assistance, i'd GREATLY appreciate it. Post here, or email me at gamr17@aol.com. I'd be willing to contact by phone also. Thanks.

  • If you are tying in more than one trigger point onto this wire, then yes you need a diode ( go to any electronics store to get a 1N4001 1 amp diode ) If no other wire is going to be hooked up to this wire, then wire it without a diode.

  • The negative safety wire may be your pin switch wire so that if the hood pin is up ( GROUNDED ) then the remote starter will not operate. The alarm instant trigger is just another way of saying that if this wire gets a GROUND sugnal when the system is armed, it will set off the alarm. So if you have this wire tied into more than one trigger point ( ie. doors, hood, trunk all together ) then you will need diodes to isolate then from one another.

Another question is about the remote start enable toggle switch. can i hook this wire to the ebrake wire?

  • Yes, this can.

Also the H8 10-pin white output wire connector confuses me. Some wires appear to be optional and not used?

  • Not sure what this is for, but most of the time you will not use ALL the wires that you are given in an alarm/remote start system. Use only the ones necessary and the rest you will wrap up in electrical tape and make sure the ends are covered so you do not have possible shorts in the future.

I'm kinda curious about the diode thing.  If I have a wire coming out of my alarm for hood/trunk pins, and it's a (-) lead, then where does the diode go, and what does it protect against?

Let's say I have a pin switch on the hood that is dedicated to the alarm (not tapped into a light feed) AND I have a pin switch in the trunk that does feed a light (switch is tied to ground).  I tap into the trunk wire between the light and the switch, and attach it to the alarm (-) wire.  then, I splice the wire from the hood pin switch into the same alarm (-) wire.

Where does the diode go?
