Dome sense or doors sense?

I have a highlander 03. I know that sensing a dome light can be a quick and easy way to detect an open-door, but I want to know where I can find a wire (and what color) that will give me either a -ve or positive voltate when a door is ajar. Not individual door pin switches. Whatever causes the door-ajar warning light. Anyone able to help me with this info? Thanks.

There are several places you can find this wire at. YOu can find it in the instrument cluster. You can find it in the door. You can also find it right next to your seat where all the wires run under the carpet. A drawback to having it on dome light is that if your domelight has a delay on it..then you have to wait to arm it. ~The Rookie~

I do have a dome light delay, however when I arm the car, the dome light goes out at the same time I arm the vehicle, without a delay. Is that enough time for the arming proces? perhaps they are done at the same time and might not be a good idea to use the domelight wiring. I don;t know how it really is yet. Does anyone know exactly where and what color the wire is on a Toyota Highlander (01 - 03) and if it gives a 12V or -ve or whatever is available for the door-ajar warning lamp to turn on? Thanks

Try  GREEN/ YELLOW       -       ign. key cyl. illumination wire Does it shut off as soon as you lock the doors? I believe it does. If it doesn't then to avoid the dome light delay, go to the Body ECU behind the glove box to get the individual door trigger wires. In the 19 pin plug, the driver door is RED / blue in pin 11 and the rear hatch is WHITE/ red in pin 6. In the 17 pin plug, the front passenger door is RED / blue in pin 16 and the 2 rear door is red in pin 15. Use all wires and diode isolate each. What alarm system are you using?

I am using an Omega Max alarm, but that really doesn't matter because its just a trigger to receive a signal from any door that is "open". Any alarm would act the same upon receiving a trigger,doesn't it? Are the two rear doors having a single output? I see pins for front two doors and rear hatch and "rear doors" so maybe you forgot to type in the last connection or are there only 1 output for both rear doors? If yes, it seems a little strange to have separate front doors detection, but only 1 for both rear-doors..
