I recently purchased an APS996 with remote start for my Toyota Celica 2004 and had it professionally installed by the dealer. However, after installation, the technician said he was having a problem wiring my alarm, because he could not figure out how to wire it so that the alarm would not arm again (passive arming) after the ignition had been turned on. He said my car's wiring is quite different from what most cars have and that he would call the factory on Monday to get some advice. Has anybody installed an APS996 with remote start on a 2004 Celica? My car has remote keyless entry but it does not have the factory installed alarm. Some pointers or advice on how to wire it would be helpful. Your help will be much appreciated!! Thanks.

Thanks a bunch David!! I'll pass this onto the technician. One more question, if you don't mind... I asked the tech. to enable the "2 step door unlock" feature, in order to emulate the way my car's factory-installed keyless system works, but he said this was not possible with my car because it is a "single pulse" system instead of a "double pulse" (whatever that means). However, I figured that if the car's keyless system can do it, there should be a way to emulate it. Are you aware of any way to implement this feature? I'll appreciate the feedback. Thanks again.

i dont use that brand of alarm, however there is always a way to do just about anything......now how much will it cost????? thats a different story..... if he cant grab the motor wires inside the drivers kick panel, then maybe inside the drivers door...i will do some more checking on that for you....
Good Luck

Who is doing the install? Sounds like they haven't done a Celica before. The latest generation Celica has a feedback problem when it is remote started and you insert the key and turn it forward. When turning the key to the on position the starter will make a grinding sound. Solution is as follows.
Wire Ign 1 output from remote start to the Ignition 2 (blue/RED / 1 silver dot) wire in the car.
Wire Ign 2 output from remote start to 86 and 87 on a SPDT relay. Connect 85 to ground, Cut the cars Ign 1 (BLACK/ orange) wire and put the key side to 87a. Put the non-key side to 30.
This problem also happens on the Nissan Altima from a few years back.

Thanks for your input, JWorm.  I have a concern though... I was told by Toyota that, in order to keep the warranty intact when installing the remote start, I had to make sure that they installer didn't cut any wires, and the solution you propose requires cutting one wire. Is there another way? I certainly wouldn't want to be stuck with a voided warranty on a brand new car. Thanks again for your help.

The warrenty being voided for the cut wire is BS. Nothing to worry about.
