My friend and I just finished installing a 996a alarm on my 2001 Silverado. After the worst install ever, the check engine light came on and the message center display stays on the battery symbol. Also my odometer/gear indicator screen only lights up in the accessory position but not while the car is running and the gas guage is dead and so is the temperature guage. Besides those problems. The remote start was working for about 2 hours and now it does the same thing it was doing before I installed the 555L module. It just starts then shuts down immediately and the security light flashes.

Like I said, the worst ever.  Has anyone ever run into these problems before or can anyone suggest anything at all to help me out? Thanks.

Check all fuses in the truck in all fuse boxes (in dash and underhood). Disconnect all remote starter modules and recheck all wiring for proper results. There are many duplicate colors in the truck and if any are hooked up incorrectly you get those type of results. Be patient and recheck everything. Make sure your ground is to the vehicle's chassis and not to the dash. Clean the paint away for a good ground.

Take it to a qaulified installer that is reputable. In the end, paying more for a proper installation will leave you with less headaches. The main problem I see here is improper ignition wire connections and also, the Passlock system doesn't seem to be bypassed properly with the 555L.
