transponder bypass, 555L

I have a 98 cavy and I am trying to use a 555L for my bypass (that's the one for the GM passlock 1 and 2 systems).  I have checked ALL of my connections multiple times but it won't work.  I followed all the wiring diagrams and programmed it.  I let the car run for one minute with the key before remote starting it with the bypass and it still didn't work.

I unpluged the unit and let it reset and it "forgot" the resistance code.  I pluged it back in and just for kicks I remote started it.  It worked then but as soon as I started it with they key the next time it stopped working.  It must keep learning the wrong code but I don't know how to fix it.  I think it may be a bad unit but I wanted to see what some other people thought first.

We need more info. You did realize you have passlock 1, correct? What type of remote starter? What wires relating to the passlock did you connect?

where did you grab your tach wire?  most likely its the passlock I tho.

you're not using it with a DEI starter are you????    i fought my way thru this same situation with a customer who used that module with one of those crappy prostart units sold by the big box chain here..... if this is the case, i can tell you what your problem is... if you are however using it with a DEI product, it should work fine, they always do for me.....

I did know that I had passlock 1.  I connected the ignition, ground when starting, bypass status output, passlock key isde, passlock BCM side, passlock ground.

I'm using the audiovox informer 996C system. It's not a cheap system, it retails for $450.  I just can't figure out how to get it to work.

If you bought the 555L, look at the instruction manual, there is a special grid telling you that 1996-1999
(i think) Cavaliers have a wire that is like a "wait to start" that must be energized in order for remote start to work. The manual will tell you what color it is and where it is in your vehicle. If you were using a DEI product I would be able to tell you how to hook it up to your alarm, but I'm not the most familiar with Audiovox, so read your install guide and find out how to hook up a "wait to start" wire. Make sure you test all your wires with your DMM.
